Previously I do not understand why most fitness guru exhort cardio as part of the weight loss program, such as running on a treadmill to loose weight for overweight individuals, and now I know why. Based on my personal research on weight lost, I found out that cardio only benefited in the heart conditioning department plus burning of the calories. Some even say it did not really boost metabolism as much as weight training or High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) does. Nevertheless after two months of consistent HIIT and weight training, I did not see much difference visually. Even though I felt stronger but my skin is still greatly wrinkled thanks to two births. Something is not right. Thus, I began to think on going running again. There must be other reasons why running is great for weight loss. If not why would it is highly recommended by fitness guru to jog and fitness retailers to buy treadmills?


     Hence, I decided to observe properly what does jogging does to me. One mind blowing fact I dismissed earlier because I did not like the sensation after 10 minutes of running is the itching part under my skin. It was annoying (the main reason why I refused to run) but the itching is actually the most important factor in weight loss. The itching sensation that I feel is caused by the release of fat storage in the adipose cells (fat cells).  I supported my theory with the ‘fat jigglelator’ fitness equipment. The fat jigglelator removes fats by jiggling or vibrating our body when we stand or sit on or wear it (and yes it comes in different trade names). The skin’s fatty layer will start to shake simultaneously releasing the fats stored. Consequently, the body could easily metabolise the fats and convert it to energy. The downside of using only the jigglelator is that we do not perform any exercises while standing on the machine. So, running actually does both; it helps to release that fat stored because of the jiggling and also to use up that fat stored as the person runs.

Eat your favourite roti canai and then go for a jog around the block. Eat soup at the food court but choose the fish-balls and fishcakes with lots of veggies in it if you want to loose weight.

     Those examples are given out to encourage healthy eating but that is not healthy at all. Roti canai is totally carbohydrate and oily with very little amount of protein. Take roti telur instead. Fish-balls and fishcakes are all processed food similar to the western frankfurters that contain lots of fillers such as fats and flour. Take real fish and chicken and add more of them veggies, please.


    This is the same dilemma I faced every time I have to eat out. I don’t see much choice. A preferred breakfast should be very simple. Scrambled eggs, cheese and a piece of beef patty would be a better choice. So, I opt for McDonalds Breakfast Set. At lunch time I faced another dilemma. Since I needed to loose extra weight, some one advised me that I have to choose something without rice. But with better understanding about metabolism, this should not be an issue at all. I can eat rice, provided that is just plain rice with a serving of protein and two servings of veggies. Later part of the day, I could just pump up my cardio and increase my metabolism through weight training. The effect is feeling satiated, satisfied and happy with me. 

The culture of Malaysians here, once they are married, they’d be stayed at home bunch. What happened to the hype life they used to have when they were single? This happens almost instantaneously after marriage especially for women. For men, it is more or less the same. They become house bum at night.

     Sadly the Malaysian club houses are very limited to just bars and dance clubs. The only breakaway for jazz and blues aficionado like me would be just at the coffee houses like Starbucks, that if and only if that particular Starbucks decided to turn on the volume on jazz that day. If not, I will be just hanging there to drink coffee and listen to the ever-so-usual music constantly played over the radio. Hotel clubs and Hardrock cafes mostly serve live band for its customers on certain days. But I am not a fan of live band. I prefer to have good company, chat, and laugh and drink away. It is already extremely stimulating to listen to good jazz. Liquor is hardly necessary. And yes, if they have a dance floor, you and me could just salsa or samba away until they close shop.
